Common Questions

Last updated October 19, 2026

Thinking about coming to a group but not sure what you are walking into? These are the questions parents ask us most. If yours is not here, call 678-878-8324 or email info@prodigalchildministries.org.

Is it free?

Yes. Everything Prodigal Child Ministries offers is free to families: support groups, Wisdom in the Waiting, weekend retreats, and our online resources. Retreat lodging and meals are covered by people who give to the ministry, so families never receive a bill.

Do I have to be a Christian?

No. Prodigal Child Ministries is a Christ-centered ministry. Our groups include prayer and scripture, and our hope is rooted in our faith. You do not need to share that faith to come, and no one will pressure you. Whatever you believe, and even if you are not sure what you believe right now, you are welcome.

What happens at a first meeting?

Most groups ask you to register with the facilitator first, so they can share the meeting details with you. When you arrive, a facilitator, often a parent who has walked this road, will welcome you.

Meetings usually include a short lesson from our For Parents By Parents curriculum and time to talk. You can share as much or as little as you want. If you would rather spend your first meeting just listening, that is okay.

Is it confidential?

We ask everyone in our groups to keep what is shared there private. What is said in the group stays in the group, and you are welcome to use only your first name.

PCM is a support ministry, not a counseling or medical service, so our groups are not covered by the legal confidentiality that applies to licensed counselors. If someone’s safety is at risk, a facilitator may encourage you to get help right away.

Need help right now?

If you or your loved one is in immediate danger, call 911. For the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call or text 988. For the SAMHSA National Helpline (free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral and information), call 1-800-662-4357.
